The FW’11 Lanvin (above) collection was extremely pilgrim inspired, which is when this trend first hit my radar as up and coming this season. The dark capes, wide-brimmed hats and minimalist outerwear echoed an earlier time, (for this reason this post goes hand-in-hand with next week’s Trend Alert). This collection is a modern take on an old fashion style, it is more feminine and more fitting for this century. Others who also felt pilgrim-inspired when designing their pieces this season include: Chloe, DSquared, Diane Von Furstenburg, DKNY, TopShop, Louis Vuitton, and more!
If you’re feeling like looking polished and poised in a Mayflower ensemble, Go for long hemlines, keep your look stylish and youthful, stick to a stark colour palette, and don’t lose yourself in the trend! Pieces to work with to achieve this look are: a refined white blouse/a white collar, a duster/maxi coat, a skirt that covers the knees, a cape, sweet high-necked sweaters, etc. It is important to keep it prim and proper when addressing the pilgrim trend, but also make it sexy and feminine to bring a 21st century chic to the look. If you’re seeking some guidance, look Alexa Chung, the queen of ‘pretty pilgrim’ in my opinion. Her use of high necklines, collars, buttons, high-waists, blazers, blouses, sweaters, etc. has her setting this trend for fashion followers everywhere to look to. She has impeccable style, and she works this trend into her individual look, giving us all great ideas of how we too can incorporate pilgrim inspired pieces into ours! Other stylish stars who’ve tried out this trend include (pictured below): Pippa Middelton, Jessica Alba and Evan Rachel Wood.
