Travel Bug: Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is a popular tourist destination in the summer months when Ontario is warm and people from all over flock to see one of the seven wonders of the world! If you’re anything like me, you hate going to the really touristy areas where there are mobs of people. I prefer to see special places when its a little quieter so I can really enjoy the sights and take pictures without a bunch of strangers in the frame! For this reason, Charlie and I decided to venture to Niagara Falls two years ago in the month of February. It was a great one night trip, sometimes we really need those nights away, and its often so hard to find the time! Since Niagara is only about an hour and a half drive from downtown Toronto, it was the perfect destination for a little romantic getaway.

We arrived to a winter wonderland, all these years I’ve lived so close and only ever spent a summer afternoon there. I had no idea just how breathtaking and calm the Falls would be in the winter time. Though I’m not one for winter outings and pretty much spend the cold months in hibernation, I was blown away by the beauty which took my mind off of my freezing hands and feet!

We stayed at the Doubletree Niagara Falls hotel and had an amazing view of the spectacle. This hotel is also connected to the Fallsview Casino, where we spent our evenings trying our luck at blackjack and roulette! Other exciting things we did included the interesting Daredevil Museum, shopping in the outlet malls, and an amazing steak dinner at 17 Noir!

If you’re looking to do something lovely for your sweetheart, skip down to Niagara Falls for the weekend for a little romance without the hassle!
